 Look carefully at the B-17 and note how shot up it is - one engine dead, tail, horizontal stabilizer and nose shot up. It was ready to fall out of the sky.  Then realize that there is a German ME-109 fighter flying next to it. Now read the story below I think you'll be surprised.

This true story is from a pilot who was in VMFA 314  at Chu Lai in '69...Just another day at the office!

      I was one of a half-dozen replacements who checked-in with MAG-13 on August 2.  We were not all assigned to VMFA-314 though.  There were two other combat squadrons in the Air Group: VMFA-115, the Able Eagles, and VMFA-323, the Death Rattlers.  All three squadrons flew the McDonnell

Way_Kill  Our Thunderbirds' Team flew in for an air show honoring 60 or so lieutenants graduating from pilot training. We went through the standard pre-show routine with Lead and 5 doing a show-line survey, while the rest of us gave interviews. Next day, a crowd of proud parents watched the new pilots receive their wings.

SR-71 BLACKBIRD INFORMATION

Last weekend at the museum of flight (Boeing Field, Seattle) was the 2007 Blackbird Forum. SR-71 pilots, reconnaissance officers, and crew chiefs discussed their experiences with the airplane and answered questions. The capabilities of that airplane built with 1960 technology are mind boggling.

He was tired of trying to find cover where there was none.  Carr hadn't realized that Czechoslovakian forests had no underbrush until, at the edge of the farm field, he struggled out of his parachute and dragged it into the woods.  During the times he had been screaming along at tree top level in his P-51 "Angels Playmate" the forests and fields had been nothing more than a green blur behind the Messerchmitts, Focke-Wulfs, trains and trucks he had in his sights.
